Whether you are on the hike and bike trails for exercise or for fun, please remember to be mindful of fellow trail users and follow these basic safety tips:
Walkers/runners:
- Stay to the right
- Anticipate the actions of other users and know your limits
- Keep pets on a short leash
Bikers (allowed on the Sandy Reed Memorial Trail only):
- Announce “passing on left” and use bike bells when trying to get around someone
- Look ahead and behind you before turning around on the trail
- Pull over to the right or completely off the trail when stopping for any reason
- ALWAYS wear a helmet
- Watch speeds and keep a 3-foot distance from pedestrians
Everyone:
- Headphones/ear buds are discouraged, but if you use, remove from one side so you are aware of the sounds around you
- Don’t allow young children on trails without supervision
- When in a group, stay in a single file line
- Obey all traffic signals when crossing major intersections
- Look both ways before crossing or merging with another trail
